Cataract Services
Cataract is the major cause of avoidable blindness in Nepal and in Sudoor Paschim province, comprising 36% of total blindness as per the 2021 RAAB. Cataract surgery has been shown to be one of the most cost effective health care interventions. It is being done using the small-incision cataract surgery procedure and the phaco-emulsification
technique in the base hospital, three secondarylevel eye hospitals and two surgical eye centers. Intra-ocular lens implantation is done in all patients after cataract surgery. Geta Eye Hospital and its network performed 17,551 cataract surgeries in the year 2079-80 (2022-23).
